Nike's ad for Kaepernick's actions. |
Nike is taking advantage of Colin Kaepernick's craze and hopping onto the train of controversy dressed to be on the side of Kaepernick. Nike is a company, and a company's main goal is to make money. Not to say that all of Nike's employees are cold hearted and have no opinion, it's just that this was just another business move, and a smart one at that.
This whole commotion has been putting Colin Kaepernick under the spotlight and then Nike barges in with its own ad, with Kaepernick. An inspirational quote is fine until you look what's beneath it: the swoosh and their slogan. To some, it might seem harmless, but in the boardroom, there is no doubt in my mind that they brought this up as a genius idea for free commercialization.
People are burning their Nike clothing and shoes (see below), not even relating to the original topic of the NFL player. People are buying Nike merchandise, and somehow thinking that they are supporting Kaepernick's idea of the original protest, and not even understanding why. It was an easy stance to take, Nike just needed to seem more humane and that is sure to bring in celebrities and so many more people who are supporting Kaepernick. No matter which side they took, they were going to get more attention from the media.

Nike has now become a symbol for, in my opinion, a good and humane cause. This link has made Nike profit billions, at the misfortune of Kaepernick's ruined career.
