New News on Faking not Faking Fake News
Fake news is everywhere now that everyone and anyone can post something. Fake news can occur to try to feed people incorrect information for someone's personal gain, or they just don't have all the information, on that certain topi. Considering the source, checking the author, checking your own biases, and checking the date are all great ways to help determine if news is fake or not. But if you really don't know, it might be a good idea to ask an expert or check a fact-checking website.

Trusting everything you see on the internet is crazy, but some sights can be really misleading. I have seen a headline where the thumbnail was a bottle of milk, and the headline was "3 Common Food the Secretly Increase the Risk of Cancer". I was intrigued so I clicked on the link. I was surprised when I found out that the three foods were eggplant, dragon fruit, and milk. I started to think that this was a fake article because, for one, those are not common foods, and for two, there were a lot of ads selling pills on the poorly designed website. I scrolled down to check the sources, but there were none, just their facebook page.
Milk increases the risk of cancer? Good thing I'm lactose. But, I agree with the intent you stated about fake news and how people should be able to distinguish what is fake and what isn't. Good thing you're a professional at this type of stuff!
ReplyDeleteI’m not gonna lie, I kind of find it funny when people click on things, and then find out that it’s fake. This can be seen in clickbait YouTube ads, where the thumbnail and title of the video is incredibly misleading. Although, when it comes to school work and things you really want to know about, it is unfortunate for those who are unable to distinguish between real and fake news. I agree with the advice you have listed and the things that people should do in order to get accurate information. Hopefully, people would not be subject to this kind of clickbait in the not-so-distant future.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Emmit. I believe most of the things that I read on social media without questioning it. With the use of social media apps growing as the Earth's population increases, there is no doubt that fake news is a serious problem. Fake news generates clicks which increases the sites popularity and the amount of money that website makes. There is no doubt that fake news is a serious problem for our current generation.
